About me

For as long as I can remember, I've spent my time writing in some form or another.
Once, when I was about 13, I wrote a school homework assignment about an escape from a POW camp.
The twist? I based all the characters on teachers at my school. I even used their real names, and the portrayals were not exactly complimentary.
I was convinced I would get in trouble. Even on a good day, Miss Smith never smiled. I remember how nervous I was when I handed in my tattered workbook.
"She's going to kill me," I thought.
But, instead of the guillotine, the infamously stern teacher gave me an A grade, with her red-inked comment of "I laughed. A lot" seared into my memory. What?
What more could an aspiring writer wish for?
Since my early, possibly libellous, scratchings, I have spent countless hours writing. Some of it was for personal entertainment. A lot of it became my work. But I have never tired of crafting new pieces or even editing work by others.
Words still fascinate me.
Over the past twenty-five years, I've worked mainly in academia. As an English teacher in my home country of England, as well as Spain, Poland, and now Germany, I love the process of writing lesson plans and materials for students.
Through teaching I entered the world of educational publishing. I have written and edited coursebooks, exams and guides for major German and Turkish educational publishers. I've crafted magazine articles for a Chinese media company. As well as helping a few local businesses get their websites in order,
Recently, I have branched out into more commercial areas, and have spent the last few years studying everything I can find about copywriting and editing with reputable educational organisations, such as the Publishing Training Centre and the College of Media and Publishing in the UK.
When I'm not writing or studying, I can usually be found with my nose in a book, my fingers on a guitar, or testing my patience with some leather work. And if the weather is really kind, I'll scare the wildlife as I thrash around the local forests on my mountain bike.
MY MISSION
Even though the art of writing and editing appears to be a solo pursuit, I am a firm believer in collaboration.
I really want to know what makes your business tick and what your goals are.
The more I know, the better I can help you craft your message, whether it's:
copywriting to to turn interest into increased sales,
content writing to give you traction in a world of limited attention spans,
or copyediting and proofreading to give your content the most professional look possible.
