Over 50% of employees are actively thinking about quitting according to a 2022 Gallup poll

This is the dream.

.Maybe you are one of them.

If so, you are obviously not alone.

Toxic workplaces, mean-spirited bosses, the dreaded 2-hour commute – all of these are pushing the miserable towards a new life of freedom as an online freelancer.

Making Money Online

Google ‘make money online’ and you’ll choke on an avalanche of results – 6.4 billion, to be exact.

But how realistic is it?

Surprisingly enough, it’s actually a very achievable goal.

And for the true idealist, becoming a digital nomad is the dream.

The Digital Nomad species.

How does your office compare?

Digital nomads are those enviable (usually) young and impossibly happy people who wander the globe with their laptops, easily spotted ‘working’ on beaches in hammocks or in street cafes.

There are about 35 million of them.

Alongside online companies, consulting work, or affiliate marketing (whatever that is), for many the product is words.

The internet has not been slow to catch on to this trend.

The freelance writer

As online business grows, the number of companies who need copywriters, content writers and editors has exploded.

So have online writing courses.

I’ve done a few of them myself.

Of course, anything that says “Take this two-week course and earn 10k a week writing online” should be approached with protective gloves.

But there are many courses that can jump-start a new career in writing.

And professional-looking websites, such as Wix or Wordpress, are so cheap and easy to set up now, you can get your business going in a matter of days.

So if your job feels like a prison and you love to write, you could do worse than check out your options in the freelance writing world.

You never know. In a year’s time, you could be one of those mythical creatures working from a beach hammock with a marguerita in hand.
